This is a powerful visual of the vision Ezekiel saw as this confirms what John later saw in the book of Revelation. This gives a glimpse of God's glory. His glory, as seen through the beasts, may not always look as beautiful as we would expect but that gives us an idea of how beautiful God is, completely out of man's imagination.
He cannot be separated from man's definition of "ugly". In God's definition, His beautiful may look ugly to man.
